Overview
The goal is to have an organized filing system for your documents.
Redundant on-site active storage, tape copy of up-to-date files for off-site storage, archival storage of inactive files on CD-Recordable, and consistent procedures.
The "Public Folder" mechanism in Outlook (bundled with Small Business Server's Exchange Server) provides a framework for establishing document management for the firm.
Most clients set up a set of nested folders on the server's data hard drive. This is usually organized by attorney or staff member name, since clients are usually handled by one attorney and one or more support staff members.
Somewhat like Outlook, using the built-in web server in Small Business Server, is an idea that might work, but I'm not aware of any legal specific applications. I'm using the office intranet to host support information - how to pages, procedures, screen shots of configuration dialog boxes.
This tool is also provided with Small Business Server. It is a reasonable way to manage a web site either on the Internet or the Intranet.
